adj.(形容词)mute,dumb,speechless dumb一般指根本没有说话能力,常指动物;mute强调为某种原因而沉默;speechless指哑口无言的。dumb,mute这两个形容词均有“哑的,不能说话的”之意。dumb可与mute换用,但dumb指原本没有说话能力或失去了说话能力。mute多指因后天疾病而引起的聋哑,有时也指因故不说话。
